Hello All,

3/7 for this batch, a sujihiki in Wolfram Special. WS is a fairly new steel that falls under the specs of V-Toku 1, and is fairly close to 1.2442. Another way of thinking of it might be as a Blue #2 with the same amount of tungsten as Blue Super. In all honesty this steel was not that much fun to work with, I compared them side by side and it's harder to grind than Apex Ultra. For that reason I don't really see myself using much of it outside of honyaki and san-mai, or much at all except by request. The steel does have great hamon potential, and this blade did in fact auto-hamon on me, so there is a fairly interesting hamon line sitting in this steel, but as I already have a WS honyaki suji in the works I just belt finished this one and stuck to my original plan of making it a budget oriented knife. A more complete review of Wolfram Special can be found on the Patreon page of our very own @Troopah_Knives under the title of "Is Wolfram Special Special?"

Thanks guys!

I think I remember will catcheside describing 1.2442 as “a turd” to grind.
That's reassuring. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I'll usually do all the hand sanding on a honyaki the same day, but with the one I'm working on, I've broken it into stages. This stuff absolutely murders 1200 grit paper.
