Does anyone know if takamura is going to produce any new takamura pros? I think I've been waiting on a restock notice from MTC Kitchen for 4, maybe 5 years.
Did takamura quiet quit this line?

Did you try contacting MTC to ask? When I was there a couple years ago I got to talking to the owner and he said he visits Takamura a couple times a year, so he will probably be able to answer.
email might be better. In my experience most of the staff don't know a lot about the knives. You've got to get to the owner.I have a hazy recollection that I called them at some point and they just told me to sign up for restock notification but I could be making that up. I'll give it another shot.

Guess I gotta take a trip to Japan...I follow Takamura on Instagram and they keep showing shots of the them, but it appears they just seem to be for the Japanese Domestic Market as I haven't seen one for sale since I've been on the forums.
I have no idea where they are sold. Didn't see any in Kappabashi or Tower Knives Osaka for sure, but I think it's pretty tourist-oriented now and it was a lot of knives like Tsunehisa etc. I think I read they sell the hana lines at department store popups or something like that? Maybe I should've looked around more in department stores.Crazy good knives and quite a step up from the red handle line.
Taka seems to be cranking out these bang for your buck lines but the pro series is where it’s at. Maybe we can start looking around at some of these Japanese vendors, if they’re available domestically in Japan surely someone has some.
I'd check the Takefu/Echizen area.I have no idea where they are sold. So who's going to Japan these days? Might have to organize a group buyCrazy good knives and quite a step up from the red handle line.

Well the western yo Blazen handle line has been discontinued. I do find them to be similar(fit and finish is the same level) but the taka pro is thinner lighter blade, still with great convexing and much thinner edge than blazen.Fairly similar to the blazen I assume, and apparently just as elusive. Maybe even more elusive when adjusted for the fact that they're still in production.
That would be impressive because here's the grind on the 210 blazen I picked up the other day and it's pretty darn thin bte, especially for a 210. My 240 tapers even more dramatically i think but I'm too lazy to take another choil shotthe taka pro is thinner lighter blade, still with great convexing and much thinner edge than blazen.
Unless you're a Michelin star chef or a Celebrity, Takamura will ignore you.
All the people I saw on IG are all Japanese Actor / Actress or Noma's Chef.
Aw come on there's gotta be a ton of knife opportunities to make it worth your while in Echizen! Just let me know when you're headed there for the group buyHeading to Japan in a couple months so I have a keen interest in this as well. I have read some people have had success going to Takamura directly - but thats quite the side trip to pick up a Hana.
