Finally coming to terms with the fact I assembled multiple lifetimes of uchigumori over the past 18 months and should pare down. This one is a great stone, originally sourced from the uchi-king himself, Nutmeg, but overlaps with several others.
$450 $385 shipped in the US
804g, 196x69x25
The darker side with namazu isn’t totally flattened, but is very usable. It is velvety soft and leaves a dreamy matte surface on hard steels. The renge dense side is slightly firmer but still self slurries with ease.
Very quick cleanup on a wrought clad knife shows the beautiful matte kasumi. All remaining scratches are from use not the stone. The stone leaves a “scratch free” appearing finish.
The backside of this honyaki was finished entirely with the softer side of this stone. The bulk of the front side polishing was done with this uchigumori but I did use some others as well.
