Hi Everyone,

I found this forum because I wanted to ask a simple question about a sharpener I was looking at getting my dad for Christmas. Neither of us are knife/sharpening aficionados, but he does a lot of cooking and I know that he likes to maintain his stuff and he's expressed interest in a nice sharpening kit. I know whetstones are like the ultimate sharpening method, but it can take years of practice to get really good and I don't want to force my dad to learn that skill just to use a gift that I give him. So, I've been looking at guided/jig sharpeners (specifically the Work Sharp Elite Precision Adjust). All of the videos I've watched seem to give it good reviews, but my one question is whether this is actually good for kitchen knives. A lot of the videos show them sharpening pocket knives and other smaller knives. Does anyone else use this sharpener for their kitchen knives and do you find that it works well?

If I should ask this question in the Sharpening forum please let me know.

Welcome.

Becoming proficient with stones (knife sharper when you're done than when you started) does not take long.

Becoming "good" is a skill that I'm still working on.

It will be far easier to mess up a knife with a gizmo than on stones.
