Hey all
knifemaker in Goodwood, ON, bout an hour from Toronto eh
recently started freehand sharpening my blades and came here to learn about stones.
If anyone in the GTA has a meetup and has NSK or other diamond stones i could check out id appreciate it.
Currently own 220, 500thick, 1000 shapton glass, an atoma 140 for flattening, and a set of 5 chinese diamond plates i got for $25. and a king 220/800 i got off amazon

hit me up!

Welcome.

Next step for the Shaptons would be the SG2000 and SG4000. My 500, 2000, 4000 and stone holder is still my travel kit after trying a bunch of alternatives.

i was considering a higher grit stone but i read that for CPM and high VC steels a lower grit of around 600-1000 (approx 400 ANSI) is the best to let the carbides do the cutting and get the most out of the steel
so i decided 1000 was enough for finishing as i mainly work with magnacut. but i do plan on going with some nitro v soon so mayb ill look at those!
is there a grit i should stay away from in the SG line?
