Hi all!

I just returned from a trip to Japan with a handful of knives, thanks to a lot of reading various forum posts here while making my decisions. Before the trip, my two knives were a VG-10 Tojiro that I've used for the last ~10 years and a HAP40 Ryusen that I picked up from a local knife shop (Phoenix Knife House). Now thanks to this trip I have to talk myself out of buying even more redundant knives, but I am quite happy with the ones I picked up. A few were from larger shops like Aritsugu in Nishiki market, Tower Knives in Osaka, and Seisuke in Kappabashi. The rest I picked up from stores I saw while wandering the streets. Oddly, the cheapest and roughest finish knife is the one I find myself reaching for the most. I believe it's a house brand from Tokuzo in Kappabashi, made from blue steel.

The Aritsugu and a small petty in particular are partially what drove me to finally sign up and post rather than just lurking; I'd love to learn a little more about what I left with. I'm fairly sure the Aritsugu is a mono-steel carbon, but I'd love to know more about it (especially what steel it might be). Whenever I can I'll make sure to post a question thread!

I've been a woodworker for quite a while, so I have a good collection of stones for sharpening. I usually do my own, but sometimes I do drop off a knife at Knife House for convenience's sake. They do a great job if anyone is nearby, and they have a great collection of some really nice knives!
