My neighbor gave me this knife to practice grinding on. It had 8mm electrical arks in the edge. He was actually using it to dig holes in his garden. I had to take it the edge way down. I used a 1x30 and a 3x21 belt grinders. It's a very redneck set up. He got the knife in Hawaii maybe 10 years ago. I didn't take any pictures before because I thought I was going to wreck it. After cleaning up the edge it's a cutting machine. It destroyed a 35 pound case of tomatoes easily. The patina immediately turned a gray color. Any information on it would be awesome. I don't use Google so I don't have access to Google lens.

Anyhow, it looks like monosteel carbon, more recently made (maybe late 90s, 2000s+) by the handle. The handle tang is thicker, which is more common in newer monosteel. Stainless rivets are also more common in newer knives, as well as tight scale fit.

This thread has raised a lot of questions for me. I want to know more about why your neighbor gave you a knife to practice grinding on, why ue was digging holes with a kitchen knife, and how/why you "don't use Google."

A long story short.
He electrified the knife. It was touching water and exploded causing deep groves in the edge. I don't know why he was digging with it. It was his garden knife I guess after he exploded it. He knew I had a makeshift grinding station at my farm. So he gifted me the knife so I could practice on grinding.

I don't use Google because I limit how much information the Internet and Google have on me.

Duck duck go is a good browser, proton mail is a great email, and there are many private phone services.
I recently switched to the duck.
Google was cool before they decided to be more than a search engine.
