Looks sweet!

Just out of personal interest - can you describe how this might differ in use from Maruo Shiro Suita (which I’m more familiar with)?

They look quite similar, but I assume some differences in use and effect...

@cotedupy
From the ones I’ve used, a shiki uchi won’t be as fine and will be even softer. They can be real mud baths that leave extremely contrasty polishes that aren’t overly detailed but quite pleasing in their own way. Here is a polish off mine - left the clad dark a very matte silvery core

All stones are different, but I think that’s probably a fair ballpark comparing the two.

Could you speak to any general differences you’ve observed between the uchigomori of Maruoyama and the uchigomori of Ohira/Mizukihara?

Such a wide range of uchi came out of Ohira and Mizukihara which makes it hard to generalize. I think the polish ceiling on ohira in particular is higher than Maruo for the best stones, but there is a lot of very included just mediocre ohira / mizu uchi too. Too hard to generalize I think.

Best to think of all of these as suita and go from there IMO. Except for tamahagane there isn’t anything uchi does that can’t be replicated or exceeded with different suita for kitchen knives.

To keep things on topic - I think this looks like a great stone in a nice full size for not a ton of money. I’m sure someone will love it!

Can anyone that has OWNED this stone provide photos of the finish it leaves? I've been asked multiple times but since I don't use it for anything other than an edge I can't answer those questions. Thanks!
