Are they still being made. Even at around 200.00 at K&S in G3 steel it is a very good knife at the price. G3 is underated stainless taking back seat to many of the powder stainless knives. Tanaka always did good heat treatment with G3. It's very sharpening friendly in fact to me it's the most like carbon of the many stainless have sharpened including powder steels.
Seems like lots of Damascus Tanaka at rather high prices. Most Nashiji are out of stock everywhere. I would be a shame for Tanaka to not make Nashiji blades in G3. It's a great combination at a price more can afford. I just picked up a 180 Tanaka Nashiji Santoku blue#2 core steel at K&S. It is for a hiking lady who goes out of her way to organize wonderful hikes.
We eat after & I did knife sharpening demo. & one on one with several members. Now they want me to teach at adult education classes at University of Hawaii.
Repaired a couple Shun knives & put sharp edges on them. After using knives they were impressed. I offered to teach them freehand so they could get sharp edges on own knives.
Did it after last Tuesday hike at members house. Told them to buy 320 coarse & 2K medium Shapton pro stones. On Amazon under 100.00 for both stones. That 2K green Shapton can get very sharp edge refining micro bevel with lighter strokes or stropping Murray Carter style. I taught them both on the 2K. Got some sharp edges on carbon that is a good finishing stone for home cooks.
