Newbie! Trying to get some recommendations for knives

Hi,

I am new to Japanese knives. Learning to understand the different steels, knives, smiths, stones.

I am looking to invest to get Takamura Sg2 gyuto 180mm for wife.

Now I am trying to try get a super aogami Bunka for myself.

I don't have a big budget and aim to have 2 Japanese knives for a long time.

I looked at Yu Kurosaki Aogami Super Bunkas. They seem to be cool looking but wide variety of reviews and comments. Some say it's really good and some says it's over priced.

Any recommendations, for super aogami Bunka made by smiths is much appreciated.

Welcome.

You may want to consider that the 180mm gyuto and most bunka will have about the same blade length and thus be somewhat redundant. I know (but don't understand) the popularity of the bunka but have not been able to find a use for one.

Maybe check the bst here. I've seen a lot of good sg2 blades come up for very reasonable prices. You may be able to stretch your budget a bit more.
