I'm almost done putting my new PC together and the last component I need is a GPU. I told my wife the new 4070 TI Super is coming out in a few weeks and that we'll be getting that one. She said "Can we afford that right now?" Then glanced up at the knife racks and said the words I've been dreading hearing for years "Maybe we should sell one of our knives to fund it?"
Deep breaths everyone, deep.... breaths.
I always told her these were an excellent investment because they hold their value really well, and she's always said, "Yea but only if you ever sell them"... It sounds like today is the day she has called me out on it and wants to cash in. I don't really have a good argument for not selling one of my many knives, so here we are. It was like choosing which kitten to toss out in the cold, but I have selected my:
Newham Honyaki Heirloom Fit Frame Handle Gyuto
Length: 220mm
Height: 53mm
Thickness: 4mm
Weight: 183g
Steel: Spicy White 26C3
Handle: Rosewood, Titanium/Zirconium Damascus, Brass, G10
Price: $850 USD + Shipping (I'll cover the first $50)
I think this price is fair for what it is and if it doesn't sell I'll probably just tell my wife the knife market is just in a slump and now isn't the right time to sell or something Ya know, stocks and such.
The knife has been used quite a few times, no change in sharpness, never sharpened or stropped, I cleaned the lovely blue patina off with some uchi powder and was pleasantly surprised to see that Will's work polishing to reveal the hamon and banding is still very visible. I think that's one of my favourite parts of this knife is that for a honyaki it just wears and holds its good looks so well, even through a patina.
Noteworthy things about this knife include:
Honyaki
Heirloom fit frame handle
Top tier figured rosewood
Titanium zirconium damascus
S-Grind
Multiple rounds of polishing and etching by Will for a stronger hamon and to reveal the beautiful details in the steel, especially above the hamon which I tried to capture in a pic
The pics below are taken to show the current condition and I've tried to keep the description relevant to what it is right now. For more pics and a write up which was written when the knife was new and I never thought I'd be selling it, please check out my original post in my Owl Woodworks Collection Thread.

For what the patina will look like:

I think that's everything, again I encourage you to read the original post for a non seller-biased review of when I just thought I was keeping it.
