I would imagine that an apprentice in a blacksmith shop in Japan will require years to become an impressive sharpener. Not sure where that leaves me! I have been trying to learn for about 7 months now. I have made progress, but watching videos is of limited value compared to real instruction.
I am wondering if there are any experts out there that would be willing to spend some time with me on a video call to observe and instruct my sharpening. I need a coach, I need a guru!
I can offer some instruction in return. I am a professional photographer for 23 years (www.marktomaras.com). I would be thrilled to do a 30 minute lesson on knife sharpening and 30 minutes of photography instruction for the teacher. Perhaps we can do this once or twice per month until we are happy with what we have learned.
