Hi guys,

I have purchased cooking knives from the USA, but DHL and UPS will not ship them to Australia saying they are prohibited/ weapons.

has any one had any experience importing a block of knives / seperate knives in to Aus?

What company did you use?
Did they get stopped at customs?

Thanks

Well, that's an interesting way to introduce yourself!

Welcome to the forums.

Not sure what the issue is.

I have had knives delivered from the USA and Sweden (can't remember the couriers), Japan via EMS and from JNS in Denmark without issues.

Not in the last couple of years, though.

I've ordered knives from abroad and had them shipped dhl/FedEx before and never had a problem. They were declared as knives on the paperwork as well. Maybe you're using the wrong terminology on the paperwork? I think you have to specify that they are kitchen knives

I did that I said they are cooking knives and block and they classed it as prohibit because it said knives

There are many members from Australia. Maybe post in one of the more general categories. I think you may get more responses. Oh, and welcome to the forum.

I am in the UK and although it could be for completely different reasons, I had the same issue. I bought a knife off BST from the US and when it got to customs, DHL returned the knife to the sender. I spoke with DHL at length and basically due to the knife laws (deadly weapons not kitchen knifves) in the UK, DHL won’t ship any form of knife in to the UK at all. This came in to affect April this year. I then explained that they had shipped a knife to me in September and they checked on the system and said it had got through as it was labelled kitchen tools. The seller then resent the knife using UPS labelled professional kitchen tools and I received the package fine. I will add that I spoke with UPS and they said that as long as it labelled as a chefs knife, there shouldn’t be an issue for them. Hope this helps.

I have bought knives from the US to Victoria using DHL and UPS. It's never been a problem. Kitchen knives are not prohibited items. Only butterfly and automatic knives are prohibited.

What website are you purchasing from? Sounds like they've filled in something incorrectly.
