Not sure where to post this…

Has anyone purchased from Shirogami knives? They have an instagram account but no website. They have hitohira knives but are not listed by Hitohira as one of their authorised sellers and the photos on their instagram have an old syamp in many of the knives. They seem to be willing to sell knives over instagram only and charge 5 percent to use PayPal or none for transfer wise (is that the same as Wise?.

Grateful for the benefit of your collective experience.

What a coincidence you asked, I was just there. I've met the owner, he operates out of Hong Kong but runs most of his shop over instagram because he currently works in restaurants as well and doesn't spend much time in the showroom since they don't get much foot traffic in the area. Great guy, he opens his showroom if you're in town and message him in advance - also super interesting to hear about his experiences as a chef. He has a good selection of Hitohira knives, as well as nenohi and konosuke HD2, but it can be difficult to know exactly what's in stock since he hasn't finished building his website yet. I'd recommend reaching out and chatting with him over instagram or whatsapp if you're curious about his stock - just note that shipping to the US might add some to the cost, but he sets a fixed shipping price and eats the rest of the cost.

Here are some pics I took of his stock when I visited recently, including this old stock Ashi honesuki.

Syoukon hamono and King Tak Hong (hkknifeguy on instagram) are also cool local HK knife shops if anyone's ever in the area.

Thanks, that’s super duper helpful. Just wanted to know whether I could transact with confidence. Must be some scammers around willing to go to the trouble of setting up elaborate online fronts. I’ve seen a fake Strata website. Good to know that Shirogami Knives is legit.

Thanks! Still doesn’t explain the old stamps on hitohiras, which I’m curious about. I kinda like them but they’re not on very many that you see come online in Protooling or Strata or Tetogi etc
