I never thought I would sell this stone but now the time has come. It simply sees too less use so I figured I will pass it on to someone else.

This is a very nice Shoubudani Suita I bought from Watanabe back in 2018. The bottom of the stone is very funky so I had a base built for it, this was before I started to do this myself. Watanabe had rated the stone as Hs45 but it definitely feels harder than that and I would rate it at Lv3.5 or a bit more. It kicks off a nice amount of black slurry with just enough stone material mixed in to feel perfect.

The stone is really really fast but not super fine (about 6-7k I’d guess) so it is a very nice finisher for kitchen knife edges. It produces amazingly deep contrast between core steel and cladding.

The stone wasn’t used a lot as I usually don’t take anything up to this finesse so it hasn’t really changed significantly since I bought it.

The stone is big, around 215x80x30 weighing a little over 1kg, I will get exact measurements along with some more pictures when I’m back home later today.

I’m asking 550€ 525€ 500€ including shipping in Europe which runs down to a little less than I paid for it. International shipping is possible and I will cover half of the cost.

I have lapped off the Watanabe hardness rating but here is a picture of it where it’s still on for proof of provenance:

A little late but here is the promised update.
I was a bit off with the size, the stone is actually 200x82x25-35.

Here some extra pictures:

Black slurry kicked off with the first stroke.

The stone brings out lots of details in the wrought iron cladding of this kiridashi.

The base was built by a friend of mine, a carpenter from Slovenia. At that time I haven’t started to make Dai myself so I had to outsource it 😁.
It’s made from a single piece of walnut only using hand tools. He worked about a week on it, about 2 hours a day as the fit is quite compex.
It’s pretty much the same process and design that I have adopted for my bases.
If you are curious you can see some of mine here: Dai time

Never seen anything like it. I have a wonky aoto that desperately needs a base, curious about making my own but it does look very complex. Thank you very much for the info + link!
