Hello KKF,

As many of you know, I recently went through a bit of an acquisition phase and feel extremely fortunate to have been able to get as many cool knives as I did in such a short time, in no small part due to the kindness of various forum members. Special shoutout to @JPAU and @Just a DK, both of whom hooked me up with some pretty rare knives.

Consider this passaround my way of returning all that positive karma to the community. :)

This is the knife I'm putting up for the passaround:

Here are the specs and original listing from Simon.

The Rules:

- Continental US only, to keep shipping costs down (sorry everyone else!).
- Opening this up to anyone who joined the community around/before I did and/or is very active.
- Only strop/sharpen if necessary, and only if you are a confident sharpener.
- Each participant pays for shipping and full insurance on the full value of the knife ($480).
- Ten (10) people total--max one (1) week each.
- The first ten people to comment their favorite maker and location get in.
- Each person is to post photos when the knife arrives, and again before sending it out.
- If you break it, or something happens to it before it gets to the next participant, you're responsible for the full value, so please do not forego insurance and pack it carefully.

Participants (in order):

1. @Johnsmyname - Connecticut
2. @Gongoozler - Pennsylvania
3. @kpham12 - Maryland
4. @TheDza - North Carolina
5. @cjmeik - Georgia
6. @More_Gyutos - Florida
7. @Carbonara - Missouri
8. @fortheloveofmoar - Wisconsin
9. @deltaplex - Minnesota
10. @mrmoves92 - Washington
11. @Gshep91 - California
12. @aporigine - California
13. @Repjapsteel - California
14. @ch_br - California
15. @Bico Doce - Texas (end)

Oh, and I'll probably be giving away the knife at the end unless someone who participates in the passaround wants to buy it at a discount (PM me and we'll talk). :D

Way cool! I’m definitely in if allowed. Favorite maker is tough, because I’m a big fan of knives I’ve yet to have the pleasure to try. I’m going to say Yanik, France. I’m in CT.

Whoops…….. I read really good. Thanks for catching me :). It was even bolded lmao

Favorite maker….. mmmmmm bidinger or Robin Dalman or HF? So many…. Blank blades deserves a mention but haven’t been able to sample enough of his work to confidently say that?

Wooos…. Edit: definitely should have said Kipp.

Location is Wisconsin

Favorite maker: Shai-hulud.

Favorite location: on a quiet sandy beach at low tide.

One problem I just thought about with a favorite maker is that I think you need enough of a sample size to make an educated understanding of what they do. You also get hf who makes a variety of grinds so knife to knife there can be a lot of variability. But anyways just random philosophical thoughts. That being said I don’t like to write off a maker based on one bad experiance.

I don’t have the experience to really have a favorite maker, as there is so much I haven’t tried out. Kono. Somebody x Myojin. Hado. Thank goodness for passarounds.

Ignoring my flippant frivolity earlier, I’ve had horizon expanders in my hands from Shibata, Kuwahara, Doi and Tanaka. I’m also liking my small Birgersson — and my Lundbergs in 26c3.

However based on a brief yet torrid fling with a coupla Skye Eilers knives, I gotta put him in tier 1. I’m putting my money where my mouth is and asking him to make a copy of that near-perfect Chef; this’ll be my first commissioned blade.

Upgrading favorite location to a gastropub with beach view.

In case my location is the right answer — I’m in southern California, Mojave Desert. Eastern Kern county

Some of you guys live in really interesting and stunningly beautiful places that I have got to visit at some stage 🤣 i saw Southern California and Mojave Desert and had to have a gander on google 🫢 😍 I have been to the United States twice but I visited big cities. I really need to go back and do a road trip.

Sorry to digress, @Dave

Can I participate? Favorite maker, I will say Milan Gravier just to have a little French competition going in my mind. Favorite place is either a beach on the west cost of Florida watching the sun go down or a restaurant or cafe in Paris. I would like to go back one day.

I’m in Florida.

Thanks!

My corner of the state is not very touristy, though it’s not too far from Death Valley and other arid delights. I have a spare bedroom in case you want to check out Blank Map CA.

I’d love to participate, based in Maryland! Favorite maker is probably Wakui, I’ve had the widest range of knives from him and they are consistently well ground whether thin convex, wide bevel or work horse. And the heat treats hold up well even after I do some thinning on them and push them really thin BTE.

I'd love to join if there is still room. In North Carolina. I'm a basic bitch so my favor blacksmith is probably Tanaka, favorite sharpener Myojin

Potentially interested if space, I'm in Los Angeles, CA.

I would need to be toward the end as I'm out of town last 2 weeks of December.

Fav maker: Daniel Cauble, one of our own here @DanielC . I have a couple extraordinary blades with all components made in entirety by his hands.

Ok going to add a few more spots to make it 15 people. There are 3 spots left as of right now so this will probably fill up by the time I get out of work today. I’ll set up the route later and ship it to the first person tomorrow. :)

I would like to join if there is space. I live in Seattle, WA. Favorite maker is a tough question, but I really like Dominik / Merion Forge. I have tried two knives from him, and they have both been good performers that are fun to cut with.

I lied, there's space for one more.

I'm putting you in but please let us know if there are any scheduling conflicts when your turn comes around.

Since I want the knife to finish with @Bico Doce in Texas and have @ch_br towards the end too, I'll probably do East Coast -> Florida -> everyone else who's locations I have to look at on a map because apparently I don't remember second grade geography -> Washington -> California -> Texas.
