We all have a warm/fuzzy feeling about products out of Japan. Knives, pans, etc. stuffed animals and cars count.

I just bought a Japanese fishing rod. Company is called Megabass. It’s damn near fishing jewelry. Stunning. It will be a challenge getting bass slime on this rod. But I’ll try.
still need to order a suitable reel. Yup. I’m buying a Japanese reel. Probably a Daiwa this time. My other rods are 100% domestic. I have a few I don’t use from Japan. But those are bargains.

How was shipping from Japan? Lots of rods on yahoo that have tempted me but shipping always scared me off

Shimano not just bicycle gearing systems, they make great fishing reels as well.

I used to use very long extendable Japanese style float fishing rods. They were incredibly good for luderick, a species I'd target locally. They were designed to be paired with a lever drag system (foreground setup) that would allow you to engage or release the spool while reeling in a fish. I found them a bit much and used an old school Alvey reel (background setup) for the best of both worlds. The rods themselves were amazing. When on a fish at times your rod would be bent over 180°.

Even for regular rods and reels Shimano and Daiwa are both extremely popular brands in Australia.

My last gear purchase from japan was this Ocea Jigger 2k. Fished it last week for the first time and got to take it all the way to 1000 feet, love it so far. Was looking at picking up a Daiwa Saltiga IC300 as well but will probably just get one of the new saltiga spj reels instead
