Got this beautiful knife as a progect, knife when arrived showed a few spots with some discolouration and some pitting in the ura side of the blade .
I did start to polish it but never got far ,only on a 400 chosera so far .
Hamono is straight one ,handle (don't know material ) is very nice made with ferrule and space ferrule in the same blonde horn 😀
Knife coming with a ebony saya also .
Tatsuo stamp is on the tang

General conditions are great ,definitely a super fancy progect for some of the polishing fanatic.

Price is 1000 usd plus shipping
Will upload Photos later today

Cheers matteo

I had no idea that some Masamoto were by Tatsuo Ikeda.

I'm curious now about how one can tell that the knife was made by Tatsuo Ikeda. A couple of people who worked in Sakai told me that is highly unlikely that Masamoto produces its knives in Sakai.

If Ikeda Tatsuo‘s dentokogeishi number was 12 then it checks out. Masamoto are forged in shikoku as well, so not sure what exactly is going on. It’s perfectly possible of course.

Sorry for OT, delete if needed

What’s interesting is that it’s a honyaki but it’s missing the 純日本鋼 stamp they’ve been putting on for ages. It’s either super old or some otherwise obscure run. Definitely rare.
