Hi KKF,

I picked this up a couple years ago from Sugi without a handle. It sat that way for a while until I recently put this amboyna burl handle on a couple months ago (not my work, only the install). I used it for a couple test cuts and it performed wonderfully, just not keeping too many at this size and I've got a couple others I'm more attached to. Balances right at the heel for a nice comfortable feel on a knife of this length.

Dimensions are:

L: 203mm
H: 47mm
W: 158g

Asking $400 $380 $375 $350 $325

Is it just the angle, or does the blade kick off to the left slightly in the last pic?
Good call on that and way to trigger some ocd behavior on a sunday :). I didn't even notice myself! There was a little lean to the left.

I removed the handle and reinstalled. The tang also had a slight lean so I was able to straighten that in the process. Feeling better about the alignment now. Thanks for the catch, I would have felt bad sending it off as it was.

Couple pics attached of the alignment now. I'm also going to add the new alignment pics above and will try to label the old spine shot appropriately to avoid confusion of what is current vs. not.

Nothing wrong with a bit of OCD on a Sunday.

;) :)

What causes the distinctive darkening of the edge on the Metal Flows? Is it an etch or something else? Sorry for the noob question, I’m just wondering if the colour will last past the first thinning.

Someone may correct me if I’m wrong but they use a proprietary etching technique using jeans material IIRC.

Feels like an etch that would have to be redone. I bet a simple coffee etch would work well. That usually turns the core steel dark when I've done it in the past. I would also say it's probably a while before this needs thinning :)

I messed up my metal flow’s etching after being too enthusiastic about removing patina once and have just recently put a kasumi on it after getting over the depression my mistake caused - and it looks like there’s some banding in cladding that I could possibly bring out with etching at some point (or maybe it’s a remnant from etch it once had?). But nonetheless can vouch for how amazing of a cutter this guy is. Wish I had waited for a steal like this to pop up on BST before I bought way back when.

Your post makes me hopeful about the future of my Tetsujin. I made the same mistake and was thinking about a Kasumi finish. Looks good!
