I've had this stone for years but only used it rarely. I've never been impressed with it and I wonder if maybe some of that is my fault. I hope to learn about the stone and how best to use it.
I soak it for 10-15 minutes before use.
What steels is this stone best used on?
It appears to be somewhat glazed over. How do I remove the glazed spots?
I'd appreciate anything you can tell me about the stone.
Thanks in advance,

Ben

While I can't tell you anything about the stone itself, if you want to remove the glazing or simply flatten the stone, you'll need a diamond plate. I use the atoma 140 for these purposes and more.

u can also use sandpaper on a flat surface or flat tile with a slightly rough surface

I also have this stone got it more than 20 years ago..The glaze is cause you likley havent worn past it. #800 I've read is not the grit, that the stone is about a 380 grit.., it cuts fast once flattened and deglazed... i'm not sold that its a 380 grit either but thats some info I stumbled across..
