I’m a newbie to working on knives. Just curious what folks use to clamp the knife in place while they’re working on a handle or something along those lines. Thanks!

A machinist or drill press vice is pretty handy.

If possible I'd rather remove the handle. Even accounting for the time to remove and reinstall, it's still overall faster for me. and I can get cleaner results on the handle without risking scuffing up the blade in the process. If that's not an option, then protect the blade and clamp in a vise with non marring material.

The more ghetto solution is 2 pieces of plywood and some clamps.

That’s Gucci bruh. Yeah prob don’t need that much but have a small bench vice I could use with tape and wood. Thanks for the input
I’m in the ghetto camp of tape and wood too.

Sometimes think I’ll skip the tape and end up with scratches that are a pig to get out of the blade so have to remind myself the cost of tape is cheaper than the effort to buff out.

A lot of people do a homemade version of that knife vise posted above.

If you have access to the tools needed. Thats a good option.
