I recently purchased a Yoshikane SKD 240 and it has a convex grind on the left side, but a hollow (concave) grind on the right side. Is this typical or a defect? From reading about the Yoshikane knives, I believe they are intended to be a convex grind. I have only ever seen single bevel knives with one side hollow, and on those the hollow is the back (left) side. I can't think of why only the right side would be ground hollow.
Here are some pictures, first one is near the choil and second mid blade. You can clearly see 2 contact spots.
Now here is the left side for comparison, with only 1 contact spot indicating a convex grind.
