I am not terribly worried about the mirror finish and I have been sharpening knives for years, albeit inexpensive ones. Thanks for the heads up about blade length. Has that always been the case or have there been batches of short ones.

I am about ready to pull the trigger on a Sukenari R2 Damascus Gyuto. Is there any reason this will not be a good choice for my first Japanese knife? I have not found much discussion about it in R2 online and would love to hear opinions from actual owners as well...
