Some of the last stones in this round of closet clean outs...
Hatahoshi asagi-type awasedo (193x70x16, 518g) -$295 $245
Smaller package but nice in use. Hard and fine leaving very crisp keen edges and suitable for uraoshi work as well. I haven't given it a full lapping to be flat enough for razor testing, but it certainly feels like it could be a finisher there if you followed with stropping in my opinion. For polishing it will leave very bright detailed polishes with care. Can mount to a dai for no charge.
Kiita iromono w/ some karasu (198x72x40, 1208g) -$350 $310 w/ tomo
This one is a very hard and fine finisher. On the upper end of knife hardness and more forgiving with a forced slurry or nagura. Not glassy, but rubbery and grippy, need to be mindful of pressure during bevel work or it will grab and cause streaking. The reward for doing so well is very bright mirrored core and very detailed clad. Good contrast for a polish this refined. Good for those who like very refined but not razor-like edges as well.
XL Asagi w/ chiseled bottom (206x78x44, 1742g ) -$200 $175
Large, clean all the way through. Very hard stone, but feels a bit chalky almost, not in a synthetic or Maruo suita way, but not glassy like some asagi. Again this one works best with a slurry or tomo. Less contrast than the above stones, but finishes at similar refinement level and very bright kasumi. Good for tools, razor pre-finishing, and ura sharpening too. Very keen kitchen edges if you like that type of thing. Not the most exciting stone to me, but a quality natural in life-time size for not much money.
I can also provide tomo nagura and/or finger stones with these for free or very little $ depending on what you select. Just let me know if you're interested and we can find something for you.
