Today marks the beginning of the cult's month long celebration of Saint Shindo.

Similar to ARM, ASS encourages cult members to use nothing but their Shindos for the whole month.

Tall nakiri and 150 funayuki.

@SwampDonkey post the evidence of your loyalty to our Saint or you'll be dethroned.

Pretty sure @SwampDonkey is away from home and packed a nice little Merion with him

Yoshi knows good and damn well that I'm away and 90 minutes from his house. Cheeky little *****...I won't stand for palace coups.

Anyway this Merion of yours is a superb travel knife, I regret nothing.

I still got archives tho

Oh lucky me, I just found this thread after preparing dinner! Also today is the first time I took that knife to a stone, an aoto, and it behaved splendidly.

Last weekend I tried lightening the handle a bit by drilling some of it out on the ol'drill press and adding a poplar plug. That ended up removing 5g from the back of the handle and pushed the balance point forwards just enough.

Joke's on y'all, I already basically use nothing but my Shindo. It's balanced out by the fact I only own one Shindo, but quality over quantity, I say! Loyalty shall be proven with action and not funds!

Thankfully the Sacred Object has not demanded a blood sacrifice yet. Be ever vigilant, fellow acolytes!

Mine expressed its loyalty pretty much on day 1.

I still havent gotten around to making the handle for the tall nakiri I got, but the 210 is definitely getting regular use.

Can we have a butt shot of the handle please? I mean after all it's only fitting for the ASS theme right?

The tall nakiri is definitely a lot of fun, in fact I think I like it even more than the original nakiri (which was one of my most used knife)

First time I've been asked to post an ass shot on the internet... Sure!

The balance point is now at the start of the heal, which seems fine to me for a detail oriented tip.

I've been debating on whether or not to dye the poplar black or red.... I am leaning towards black.

Edit: image didnt upload...

So… incredible knife for the money. Good edge out of the box but was feeling it not up to par when it was time to trim up some chicken thighs. 1 minute freehand with a small coti turned it good enough. No patina yet oddly, stripped the lacquer. Was missing a little extra length at times but should be great for the month.

The CKTG ones are known to have very reactive cladding. The one I tried from Tokushu was not very reactive so I’ve been looking there. Not sure about other sellers.
My cktg Enjin funayuki’s cladding has not made me think it’s especially reactive. Not like my white 2 Okada … only thing I have that tops it for reactivity is my table saw surface. Hoo doggies that thing rusts when you breathe near it. A real btch to keep looking cared-for.

I used my funayuki exclusively today. I have several, perhaps more suited blades. But the Saint did all the heavy lifting on an onyo. I’m all in on Sheptember.

Nice shot of butt with plug

So for me, it’s gonna be ARS and ASS since I only have two nakiris.

Y'all should feel privileged. Normally I charge for ASS pics. A good ol' 165mm really fits well with the counters here and fits on the variety of small and cheap cutting boards I have scattered around.

Give it a couple weeks and I'll have enough ASS pics to start an onlypans.
