Hi I am Shane. I recently had a vacation in Japan and bought a yanigaba, Gyutos, and petty knife. I think I got hooked as I am constantly looking for information about sharpening and different stones I should buy to sharpen my knives. Learning a lot just by reading your reviews and how too’s Very interesting stuff!

Welcome Shane.

Lots of us have leaned a lot from Jon's Videos.

Which knives did you take home from Japan?

I bought a Sakai Kikumori 210mm Gyuto, a idk brand Yanigaba and idk brand petty. I noticed buying in Japan is very hard as English is limited so I wasn’t really sure what I was buying as compared to shopping at CKTG or JKI.

Are prices better in Japan? I'd assume so, but always wondered.

The Sakai Kikumori 210mm gyuto I bought at a shop in Osaka costed me roughly $130. I looked up an online retailer in the States and they are selling for $235 so I guess in that instance it was cheaper. I wasnt into high end knives at that time so I wasnt looking. I did notice that alot of the sharpening stones were cheaper, I guess cause of shipping?
