Anyone know if I can buy ho wood to make handles? Thanks!
I found the page on JNS when I was searching Google so your memory was correct.Once upon a time, I recall JNS selling blocks of it, but can't find them on there now.
I've gotten a few blocks from them in the past and found basswood seems to be cheap. Any idea if it's similar?I haven't bought from them in a while, but belforrest is my go to for ebony and Blackwood.
Especially in different area codes.Always nice to have extra hos on the side, love them hos.
Or just UtahEspecially in different area codes.
Thanks I was looking at that and noticed the hardness of the two. I got some poplar and basswood to check outPoplar is only a tad harder than basswood. Holly is about twice as hard.
Basswood is often used for carving because it's soft. It might get dinged up a little. IMO Holly would work better and its inexpensive.

Basswood is lightweight but extra extra soft similar to balsawood. I can deform it with my finger. Not sure how durable it would be as a handle. Thanks I was looking at that and noticed the hardness of the two. I got some poplar and basswood to check out
