A new blade of mine was chipping (sugimoto sf4030). First use slicing mushrooms. Sharpened it on an 1000 rockstar followed by BBW. Now no chipping (touch wood). I've heard this can happen before a first sharpen, why is this?

Possibly first sharpened on a belt, and there was fatigued steel left on the edge possibly?

And buffing. All very common. Pleased to hear that a simple 1k sharpening did the job. Sometimes a bit more of steel has to be removed.
Maybe. Got it towards the end of the shift. Will try it again tomorrow.
