For sale today I have four really cool Swedish knives. All prices are with global shipping (let me double check though if you live in a remote location) and payment via Paypal G&S.
Each knife has an Imgur linked. In each album you’ll find a picture with a time stamp. Pictures and video after time stamp are taken just before listing the knives for sale.
-Sold- First up is a san mai migaki gyuto by Smedja Aspen. Asking Euro 550.
This knife is not laser thin, but has a very smooth grind making the knife an excellent cutter. Tip is not the thinnest I have used, but by no means thick. The steel is the same as in the Småre knives, and you might’ve heard good things about the heat treat. Handle is in a frame construction, with a hidden tang and peened pin. Handle wood has a tight and nice grain. This knife is for you if you’re interested in a nice patina canvas, an uncommon handle design and a well ground knife that you won’t be afraid to snap.
247 x 53, 211 g. 1.2562, 65-66 HRC, wrought. Western frame, walnut burl/juma. Bought Feb -22.
-Sold-Second up is a warikomi gyuto from Björn Birgersson. Asking Euro 550.
This knife is very thin, and has a tip which is even thinner. Knife has a clear shinogi making it easy to thin a little bit with each sharpening. This is a very enjoyable knife to use due to grind, balance point, and handle design. Construction is a full-tang western, with a black and red micarta handle. I’d not recommend this knife to anyone who is not comfortable with really thin knives. If you’re in to thin knives though, this might be something for you to check out.
241 x 61, 250 g. Secret steel, 66-67 HRC, clean (construction?) iron. Full tang western, red/black micarta. Bought June -21.
-Retracted- Third up is a san mai gyuto from Christian Dam. Asking Euro 550.
This is a work horse with a very good geometry. Given that it’s not that thin I was surprised by how well it moves through ingredients. Knife has a rough look, is on the heavy side, and is very appealing for anyone who likes the rougher look. Knife is tip heavy. I’d not recommend this knife if you’re looking for something to get you through a long session of tip-work. However, it’s a good knife for chopping up veggies for a stew, slicing potatoes, or feeling like a cave man at the BBQ.
272 x 54, 275 g. W2 (not shirogami), 64-65 HRC, wrought iron. Wa, ebonized oak. Bought Feb -22.
-Retracted- Finally is a honyaki gyuto in TWR from Samir Yousri. Asking Euro 900.
Yousri deserves an introduction. He’s a book binder, professional opera singer, TV-personality, violin maker, carpenter, Masterchef finalist, and all around very fun guy. He is a highly skilled knife maker, doing knives ranging from Euro 5k mosaic damascus, to knives used in theater plays. I think that most of the available TWR from Swedish makers have been bought from Yousri. This knife is something as rare as a TWR honyaki. Yousri spoke with Achim Wirtz about TWR honyaki, and it seems as if there are only a couple ever made, all by Yousri. Handle is a very classic and stylish ebony with ebony bolster with silver spacer. Knife is a smooth cutter, asymetric geometry for right handedness. This knife is for those of you looking for a unique knife, with really nice specs.
This is another TWR from Yousri (I think it has a very minor defect) that Nathan (knivfluencer on IG) polished. He allowed me to use these pictures to show how the knife can look if you’re skilled at polishing.
207 x 48, 192 g. TWR, 66 HRC. Wa, ebony/silver/ebony. Bought Dec -21.
