They have been the ultimate unicorns ever since they were released in the mid 2000s .... think Kato Kikuryu before the Kato hype started ...every decade has its unobtainium... that should give you the idea ...

The regular production KD line had the red stamp. The limited edition 80th Anniversary knives got the black kanji.
