Hey everyone, just got into the hobby about 2 months ago and been enjoying the forums for all my questions. Started with looking at new Zwillings, lead me to Nakiris, lead me to Miyabis, lead me to YouTubers, Anryu, Ikeda, Knifewear, and on down the line deeper and deeper into the rabbit hole.. and I’ve only skimmed the surface I’m sure. But loving my new toys, they’ve gotten me cooking and trying new things WAY more! My wife is finally cutting with more than steak knives we got for our wedding 4 years ago and our food is even evolving. I appreciate all the answers I’ve found on the forums and looking forward to interacting. See you around!

Welcome and congrats on your discovery of knives that actual cut! :) You're correct that it does change your cooking.

A couple things just to keep in mind... Knifewear can be overpriced. Just say no to Burrfection. ;)

Thank you! Yeah, I did notice that Knifewear is overpriced.. but not so much in comparison to other online retailers I’ve found.. but I appreciate their videos and content and website layout so they were really helpful in getting started. But just got 2 knives from KKF BST forum so really excited about that new avenue now!

I noticed A LOT of Burrhatred on these forums! 😂 could you lmk real quick why everyone dislikes him so much? His cutting board reviews were helpful and I did end up getting a Hasegawa and a strop through his site. He seems like a nice enough guy 🤷🏻‍♂️ just one of the many resources I’ve checked out.

Some of us are not fans of his sharpening advice. Others are also not fans of some of his sales tactics.

Great product promotion and self promotion--but no credentials. Is that what you want?

Welcome,

I'm a fellow South Pas guy. I've been exploring cooking and cookware as a hobby for about 7 years and have learned a great deal--especially about kitchen knives. Hope you have fun!

Thanks for the replies everyone.. considering your views and reading through other threads about B helps me understand better. I haven’t even gotten into sharpening yet cuz I’m as green as it gets but will follow the guidance of guys that seem to be highly recommended on here, like Jon and Peter.

I don’t mind some salesmanship, but can understand how knowledgeable members like yourselves can judge B for what can be considered to be misrepresentation. I personally can’t really hate on anyone because I have less experience than everyone, but will certainly take your replies into consideration as I grow and attribute value to resources, so I thank you all for that! But like @drrayeye is suggesting, I would much rather learn from people that are truly experts, as opposed to those who are ‘deemed’ experts by themselves or companies trying to move merchandise. Just wanted to hear some thoughts from y’all because I never like demonizing people because of popular opinion, as opposed to developing my own conclusion.. but I totally get what you’re all saying.

Thanks!! I grew up in Palmdale and moved out here after I got married.. my wife was living in El Sereno.. and omg, we LOVE this city! Never wanna live anywhere else! The food and birds and trees and people are just my speed. It’s a privilege to be neighbors! 😁

No demonizing or hating of Ryky. Judging yes, but no hate. I don't wish any ill will on the man at all. I just don't like his approach, but many do.

The best advice I can give is to focus on sharpening before focusing on more knives. For the cost of a new knife you can get a decent sharpening setup going and once you start learning that, you open up an entire world of possibilities. The folks here are great help so never hesitate to ask for help.

Oh yeah, you weren’t harsh or unfair at all.. very straightforward and unbiased. All of the comments on this thread were. I look forward to starting to sharpen but I’m so new to the scene that the pieces I got are still blazin. I already got whetstones and a truing stone ready so thinking of cutting my teeth on the knives that kicked off the hobby for me.. a trash set of Skandias that I got at my wedding and were like butter knives when I went to use them! Just thinking I can give it a try on them and not worry about making any mistakes, but still try to develop some good habits.
