Kanji interpretation please

When I first started buying Jknives I purchased a number of used single bevel knives from Japan and put them away. Now I have pulled them out an am curious.

There is also stamped Kanji that I am not sure is readable.

Tanaka is a blacksmith. Chestnut is a type of wood.

It's actually 粟田口 not 栗田口.
You read it "Awataguchi". It's a name of legendary swordsmith in Kamakura era.
It's typical to use swordsmith name as brand name.

Exactly as Kou-san says. It's read Awataguchi from 粟田口　吉光. (Yoshimitsu) 13th century sword maker.
I "think" the knife comes from Kyoto but not sure. Not often seen.
