Hi all,

A friend picked up this knife in Japan, just trying to learn more about the maker if anyone here can translate Kanji.

Thanks,

I can only recognize kanji I already know, and it's limited to makers often discussed in here. I can't translate or even point you toward what line it's from without some time searching, and it may not even be a currently produced line since Masamoto has a long history and puts out a high volume of blades, relatively speaking.

The Tsuki 築 shows thart it is a Tsukiji Masamoto 築地 正本, as opposed to a Souhonten総本店 Masamoto.

" BTW- can you discern which series it is from the Kanji alone? "

Not really. I'm pretty sure Tsukiji Masamoto doesn't put the steel type on the other side of the blade.
But, it's not Aogami because there would be an "A".
Do you know if it is stainless or carbon steel? If not you can test it by dropping a bti of white vinegar on the blade. If it turns white it's carbon, no change and cklear is stainless. No damage or stain to the blade.
