The HD’s use a semistainless steel, I believe, but not sure I’ve seen it named anywhere on here. Hence Dave’s comment.

I looked it up on Duck Duck Go ... could only come up with an Austrian steel made for punch tools.

Kon had some alloys of their own, usually semi stainless. You might not find anything.

Thanks kayman. There’s no question that they’re very nice knives. I was just curious about the make-up of the steel. My HD steel seems to have a very high chromium content haha!

Your steel leaks oil, the Kono does not

True ... but you have to put oil on your knife to keep it from rusting. My HD is much better ... it’s self oiling!

Back to the knife - my 270 HD is among my favorites. Does everything well and sharpens like a dream.

My HD has been one of my favorites for years. HD steel is a semi-stainless proprietary steel from Konosuke.

I’ve had three HDs, the 240 is one of my most used knives. Great knives, great steel. Sharpen easy enough and maintain the edge very well.
