I tried sharpening my maxamet para 3 with some CBN metallic bonded stones and got huge chips formed sling my entire def any idea why? Happened with 89 grit and 40 micron stone.
If I may add my 2 cents - I would go away from surface-bonded abrasives (diamond plates, CBN plates) and take a plunge for 1-2 diamond stones (400 and 1000 grit). Not cheap, but for Maxamet it is basically a must. And if you do want to keep using the diamond or CBN plates, then be very gentle with pressure.
Maxamet is notoriously challenging to sharpen. Super wear resistant, tendency toward chippiness. I know professional sharpeners who refuse to work with it.
