Up for sale is my mystery stone. I have no idea what mine or layer it came from but I have a hunch it might be a senmai suita. I know a lot of you want to know the mine and layer but that wouldn't make this stone any better. If you care about that, this is not the one for you.
What I can tell you is that it's an amazing polisher. It's medium soft and it will self slurry very easily on laminated wide bevel knives. In the hands of the right person this stone is capable of delivering a gorgeous polish. I'm confident in saying this stone can rival a high quality Uchigumori. That's also the problem for me, it's not really a working stone for tools and such. It belongs in the hands of someone who's looking to put a wonderful polish on a knife.
It's very responsive to how much water you use. With a minimal amount the jigane of a knife will pull a lot of material from the stone and you will get a slightly misty polish. With more water the polish will be more well defined. I actually felt it performs at its best with a minimal amount of water. The stone gives you plenty of feedback and finishes in the 10k range, even with a minimal amount of water. It's a very fine stone. The size is 180mm(measured in the middle)x80x27mm. The stone is sealed with varnish and the bottom is reinforced with epoxy.
Even though I don't know what mine or layer it came from I feel this stone justifies an asking price of €280 or $315. Shipping is €13 within the EU (I know Finland and Greece are €18,50) and $28 to other parts of the world.
