For the past few years, all the shigefusa kitaeji yanagiba that I have seen have seven groups of three lines on the blade path. I thought that's a kind of shige signiture.
However, to my surprise, I have seen shige kitaeji yanagiba pictures with different lines (no grouping of lines...just ~16 lines) on its blade path. I don't recall that anyone mentioned a fake shige on this forum, but what I saw is just a fake?? or does old shige kitaeji yanagiba have different pattern on its blade path?

Could some of you who has old shige yanagiba check your knife and tell what you see with your knife?

Thanks.

ok. I asked and I find a partial answer.
First, if you go to this JNS link, a kitaeji yanagiba blade path shows what I meant by the seven groups of three lines.

I have a couple of kitaeji yanagibas from a different vendor and what I have shows the same pattern.

Now, this japan-tool link shows a little different pattern on its kitaeji

What I asked as a different pattern is close to what the kitaeji on the JP site.

What's the pattern on your knife?

Somewhere in between?

well Schanop I'd say yours show seven groups of three lines (total 21 lines).
What I saw does not have even 18 lines and no grouping at all. ^^
