**05/06: Dropping by 15% to £465 + half the actual shipping**
They say good luck comes in threes, and just after I ordered this I had an opportunity to pick up an iron clad migaki, and a kurouchi extra height.
Lucky me, but one has to go.
I paid £478 at Kitchin Tools, plus a further £128 in import and customs fees - £606 in total. I have uploaded screenshots to evidence this and hopefully avoid a cameo in the flipper thread.
You might be thinking ‘that is a lot’ and you would be right, importing into the UK is not fun right now.
I’d like to try and get back close to what I paid and am asking £550 495 465 + half the actual shipping cost from the UK (which tends to run at approx £30 to the US and similar distances right now).
Specs:
Steel: Blue (Aogami) #1, Soft Iron Clad
Handle: Yakusugi Cedar & Buffalo Horn Ferrule Octagonal
Height at the heel: 51mm
Cutting edge length: >230mm (I don’t want to scratch the finish with my tape measure - the kurouchi is quite delicate, which I talk more about below.)
Thickness: 3.1mm (I don’t have callipers so this is taken from the KT website.)
Weight: 158g
PLEASE READ: I would like to flag that the knife arrived to me with a very very small dark spot on the core steel.
I decided to remove this with the lowest amount of intervention possible with a few light passes using some stone power and a cotton wool pad. The original spot is now almost imperceptible, but there are a handful of light scratches from the powder; you could completely eradicate both of these in less than 5 minutes but I thought it best to stop there having prevented any functional issues from developing and mindful that I would be putting it up for sale.
TxK knives seem to be quite prone to rust/corrosion - I had the same issue with the migaki when it arrived with me. I would recommend getting a patina established before too long if you’re going to use it, or take other measures if you’re a collector.
It’s also worth noting the kurouchi on these knives is infamously transient, don’t be surprised if it starts to come off when you are wiping it down after use.
I have posted video and pictures to show condition as explicitly as possible - let me know if there’s anything else you would like to know or see and i’ll be happy to help.
