Saya recommendations

I recently purchased a Takeshi Saji 130mm petty knife. I've seen several of the sayas listed for sale on different websites specifically mention they don't fit his knives. Can anyone recommend a suitable saya for his knives? Any information is great appreciated.

how high is the blade on the heel? I have one Saji VG10 Black Damascus 135 (130 edge length) with height at the heel of 3mm. Easy to find one if height at the heel is 30mm or less. You can always ask the seller or make a custom saya.

If I'm not mistaken Saji R2 or SRS13 has 32mm or more height at the heel.

Saji petty knives run 32-35mm heel height.
JCK sells Saji and sayas.
He has one petty in stock that’s 35mm high.

OP can measure their petty then email Koki at JCK and ask if he has a say a that fits…

Not all Saji's petty have 32-35mm height at the heel though. I hold 2 Saji Black Damascus VG10 135/130mm petty and height at the heel 28 - 30mm. Mine is 30mm.

But R2 version or the newest Damascus (some called it diamond finish Damascus) petty has more height indeed. Maybe 32 ish

Thank you for the clarification. I started trying to measure the heel and was confused by the 3mm figure.

How is the heel measured exactly? Sorry for my ignorance, but I'm learning...

I did email the retailer I purchased it from, but I wasn't satisfied with their response. They sent me two links on they're website, one of which actually specified it did not fit Saji knives. This doesn't lend confidence in making a purchase from them obviously.

You can use ruler or digital caliper to measure the height at the heel like this. From heel of the knife to the spine

EDRO Made makes a good saya . I bought one in AU. It's easier for people who live in the US, maybe they can make a custom saya since EDRO are made in the USA.

EDRO Made makes a good saya . I bought one in AU. It's easier for people who live in the US, maybe they can make a custom saya since EDRO are made in the USA.

I shopped around the web for EDRO, but couldn't find one that looked like a good fit. A lot of "Sold out" signs when shopping for them.

I see some ready stock. Maybe you can contact the maker if you want a custom saya or just ask to make sure it fit you knife.

I had ordered a custom saya from EDRO and it was very easy. All I had to do was traced knife profile on a letter size paper and give him the specs of thickness. The price was good, I ordered a $43 custom gyuto saya and $21 standard petty saya.

But now I just make my own.

Yeah that's where I went first. Then followed links to the other shops, and they were mostly sold out as well
