As far as I know it isn't anything out of the ordinary; it is definitely from KnS and I can look through my email for specifics. While looking at the handle I noticed the scuff on the ferrule shown in the third photo; it's not quite that stark irl, I shone a flashlight on it to get the pic but it's certainly there.

Sorry, didn't mean to insinuate it's not KnS or something like that. My KnS Shinko Seilan has the "standard" ebony and horn handle. That one seems to have some extra spacer (can't tell from the photo) which I hadn't seen before. But checking on KnS it looks like some fancier knives come with that type of handle.
