I pick through lumber looking for interesting grain and figuring, so each piece is unique; these are photos of the exact block being sold. This particular piece is a light caramel-colored Norway Maple with some cool folds and creases in the figuring.
I use keyhole mounts, 16" on center (you can mount to studs, though I don't think it's necessary with proper anchors), so that there's no visible hardware/holes/plugs on the face of the block. I've also machined sighting flutes on the back of the block to make hole location/spacing simple.
Very strong magnets. When removing knives, you want to twist, rolling on to the spine before pulling away from the block. For reference, there are six 60mm wide magnets embedded for ~15" of magnetic space.
Approximately 18" x 3" x .75" with lightly chamfered front edges.
