For those of you who have tried the Toyama or Munetoshi bloomery knives from JNS, what are some thoughts on this steel?

Sharpness, edge holding, toughness, ease of sharpening…

I personally think it doesn’t get as sharp as blue or white steel forged by Tanaka or nakagawa. And I find it very hard to sharpen. Let me know if you disagree.
 
It looks similar to this steel on zknives:

If so, basically an equivalent steel to M4 although hard to know if it is a PM steel even if it is. Assuming all of this, it would be considerably more time consuming to sharpen and would benefit from using diamond stones or similar, but quite a tough steel with much superior edge retention to the basic paper steels.

I only have experience with CPM-M4, so all of this might be irrelevant.

Very different steel, jns says it's similar to Hitachi blue steel. They def ain't forging welding that with wrought iron. Probably something more like this with tungsten, it's a popular choice for French bladesmiths where the material was sourced: https://zknives.com/knives/steels/130cr3.shtml

It is absolutely not M4 class steel.
 
Thanks, I stand corrected. I was speculating based on the naming convention but you guys know more about it than me. I'll add an edit to my post.
