Hi I wonder if anyone tried both of the Atoma 120 and 400 for stone flattening like medium to super fine. Which one do you prefer and why??

Is it 120 grit Atoma too coarse for medium to fine grit and leave deep scratches on the stone??
Is it 400 gri Atoma to weak and will take a long time to flattening like ceramic stone which dish very bad?

I'm currently using Suisin stone fixer that I bought 13 years ago and still use it until now. I forgot the grit since I lose the original paper box. I use it for fixing chip on the flat side and flattening on the other side. But steel got harder and stone we use is getting harder too, so I need a better flattening stone. Any suggestions?? Should I get the 400 grit for flattening medium to super fine stone (8000 and above) or just get the 120 and use my Suisin chewing/ stone fixer to remove the deep scratches from 120 grit Atoma??

For me the 140 is the do it all plate. It flattens everything I have from 300-6000. For the higher grits, yes, it leaves scratches on the stone, but you can use another stone closer in grit to smooth those out. Or a nagura if you have one. I also have the 1200, but mostly just use that as a slurry plate for naturals.

So the scratch is not that deep and can be removed by any nagura right? Nice.
I think I'm going to get the 120 then, because it can flatten the coarse stone and medium stone faster that 400.
I just worry the scratches are too deep. Thank you for your information @Heckel7302

Correct. Honestly, sometimes I don’t even bother smoothing out the scratches on my mid grit stones. A few passes sharpening and they are gone and I’m hard pressed to feel any difference when sharpening whether the scratches are there or not. And eventually all diamond plates wear out a bit. So after using the 120 for a while it starts acting more like the 400.
