What kind of burner do you have? How much heating power does it have?
 
Can also recommend Wok Shop. I’ve been using mine for almost a decade. It’s great. No need to get spendy on these things.

the WokShop. yuck.

i have the same wok as Michi. it is pretty damn good. it never turned completely black like my other wok, but it is very good. not good looking, but good. it is sturdy. i dont like it when i can flex it by hand. this one doesnt flex. i did have to drill and install a second screw into the wood handle. it was loose feeling

i have fried rice planned for tonight.

Not sure I'd buy from Wok Shop again... I ordered a fairly inexpensive 'hand hammered' carbon steel pow wok with a flat bottom. It clearly is a machine-stamped wok; the flat bottom is not flat but has a slightly rippled surface, which makes it impossible to scrape food out cleanly when stir frying. The metal is exceptionally thin, too. It's really not a very good wok. Perhaps some of their inventory is of a better quality, but I'll not be ordering from them again.

Their thicker local made range is good.
 
I love my yamada wok (flat bottom) for my indoor stove. I use it for my small frying tasks and a so so stirfry when I'm not going outside. Highly recommended.
