Our garlic press broke, so I need a replacement. Read some recommendations here in the forum and I beleive this Epicurean is great...
Would you like to get rid of yours? You dont use it? Partner does not like it? You just like to spread love in the form of a garlic press?
Hit me a PM.
Thanks.

i am really a kitchen gadget aficionado and the epicurean garlic press is my favorite gadget. only paid a few dollars at a thrift store but i suppose it's worth every penny of msrp too. i just saw they're deeply discounted on amazon so i ordered a spare. not sure about the seller though

People talk about the huge differences between minced vs pressed garlic, and they’re right. But the Epicurean has saved my ass many times when I just need to blat some garlic flavor into a dish that’s already cooking, and I didn’t prep a clove or ten the “right way”.

this thread has me questioning my garlic press situation.

Save yourself some money and grab one of these. The best and easiest garlic chopper I've ever used!

wow. the simplicity really makes sense to me...

saw this on amazon... caveat emptor...

Mine broke (pins came off) Called the manufacturer and they informed me that there are very good looking fake presses sold on Amazon by vendors. I purchased mine May 2016 (Sold by DUNG PHAMSDDA and Fulfilled by Amazon.) Kuhn Rikon will honor the warranty which is very impressive to me. I paid half of retail not to Kuhn Rikon and yet they are replacing it so kudos to the company.
Kuhn Rikon point out that unless sold directly by Amazon it may not be a real one. I thought Amazon fulfillment meant some level of trust. Wish Amazon focused on quality in their vendors. You can see that many of the 1 star reviews have the same issue. The brand name is etched and a patent number is on the product so counterfeits are getting better. See the pictures in my one star review.

you have a KR press with no pins? how does the hinge work?

basically it sounds like there are a lot of ~$20 KR epicurean garlic presses floating around, including on amazon. some of those are probably counterfeit. what i quoted above was some random person's amazon review that i thought was interesting.

oh. are you talking about pins for removing garlic? i (and i believe that amazon reviewer) are talking about pins that the hinge is made of. like, i believe he sought a warranty claim because the hinge on his counterfeit tool came apart. pin, rivet, whatever you want to call it.

Moving parts are the enemy of longevity. I've used that garlic press up there for 4 years nearly daily and it looks new still. There are no moving parts, it's stainless, never jams, cleans up fast with a little brush and makes perfectly uniform little chunks of garlicky deliciousness every time. If you want to make a paste, sprinkle a little salt on the pressed garlic and use your knife or a bench scraper and it pastes up immediately. In short, it's my fave 😁

I usually chop garlic, but when in a hurry I put the coarser microplane to work. It's been a long time since I used a garlic press, basically when i tested the flavor differences and got tired of cleaning the press,

You kinda have to scrape it when you’re done or when you’ve clogged it from believing the “skin-on” boasts.

These things are a total pain the ass. You spend more time cleaning them than you would do peeling and chopping / mashing / crushing the garlic. If they are made of something that can oxidise you will also get the metallic taste. Finally you don't get to use the nice kitchen knife you spend a load of cash on.
