Experience with Customs/Duties buying knives from other countries

I recently completed my search for a new knife (on the way and hopefully arriving soon), but during my search, I was looking at several websites in different countries outside of the US. I ended buying from a US-based knife shop, but was curious about the experience with customs or duties when you buy from a store that is located in a different country. Can anyone share their experience? I'm sure it varies depending on your home country, so I'm mainly curious about buyers in the US purchasing knives from outside the US.

No custom till you hit the $800 mark

Yep, no issues below $800. I've bought from Japan, Canada and Europe. Nothing any different than buying from the US. Well except my Japan buys usually get here faster than knives even from across the state!

I've only purchased one knife internationally (Australia) that was over $800 and didn't have any customs fees. Probably a fair amount of luck of the draw involved.

I have 2 knives in a single package (again from Australia) coming later this year that will probably have a combined value over $800 so crossing my fingers.
