Hey All,

So this is a bit outside my normal but wondering if you all have any recommendations for someone that can fix a Friedr Herder chefs knife. It’s a gift and has a good deal of sentimental value as a result but damn it’s a terrible cutting knife. Distal taper? What’s that? Thick as heck behind the edge and just overall a pretty poor cutter. I’m fine with the German profile, used one in a kitchen for 5 years when I was starting out but the thickness and lack of taper I can’t deal with anymore. Basically I want someone to take a belt grinder to this thing and turn it into something decent at least. I want to use it for sentimental reasons but jeez it’s rough to use.

Any advice on who to send it to? Some of my usual suspects like JKI and Carbon are not interested/not taking larger projects like this right now.

Check that lack of distal taper :)

Bernal maybe? They did fix alot of vintages.
Didn’t think of them, smart, I should give them a call about it. It may actually have been bought from them originally? Looks like they sell these.
