Kiyoshi Kato hairline crack? Towards the end of the spine

Hairline crack? towards the end of the spine of my Kato, Can't feel it too much with my finger nail, Anyone experience the same problem before?

Looks like a different process in action. The OP's looks to be a delamination of the core from the cladding ie defect in forging. The one in pass around likely occurred during the heat treatment and quench.

where was this knife purchased? In the short term I'd fill the fissure with beeswax to expel moisture.

He's understating things. Thats not the weld line its a fissure ie forging incomplete, and not normal.

I've seen worse handle installs.

Chances are good the crack extends into the handle although shouldn't be an issue for corrosion if you seal the visible bit. What remedy are KW offering?

If it’s brand new, I’d return it.

Personally I wouldn’t want to pay money for a knife that’d get the smith kicked out of the first round of forged in fire.
