I saw Ryan from district cutlery sharpen a customer knife and felt in love with it but couldn't find any info on the product

Apparently, according to some people I know these have San mai construction so they're not honyaki even though there's a honyaki like finish

I know they do both. I have a honyaki already I'm just looking for the specific one that in the photo

I've been asking around about it a lot but no one can give me any info about it. So happy to finally see your response!

As was suggested by previous posters, the Troll Killer is not a honyaki. It has a blue 2 core with damascus cladding and a welded/forged "hamon".

It seems that a lot of people are not very familiar with how Troll Killer's perform - probably because they are so expensive and Nigara is not as hyped on the forums. I've only used this one, so I can't speak for consistency in grinds/profiles across the product line. I do have other Nigara's, like the honyaki, but they aren't Troll Killer's and they have different characteristics. Maybe others can weigh in with their experiences.

The most noteworthy thing from my perspective is how it cuts. The Troll Killer is the best pure cutter I have ever used. Better than Burke, Yanick, Raquin, LaSeur, Milan, the9, Devin, Catcheside, Takada No Hamono, Takeda, Mazaki, Kato, Watanabe, Ashi Hamono, etc etc. It's truly unbelievable. The grind is very thin and complex with subtle concavity and convexity. And unlike most lasers, the spine is super rigid and stiff. Its an unusual combination that cuts exceptionally well.

When it came to me new, it had almost a zero bevel. It was shocking how well it cut, but the edge was so thin it felt too delicate on the board. After a nice microbevel from Ryan @ DC Cutlery, it was perfect.

Specs:
Weight: 189g
Steel: Aogami 2 with damascus cladding.
Edge Length: 229mm
Heel Height: 52mm
Grind: Thin Convex with subtle hollows
Handle: Koa made by Jody @ Pie Cutlery.
Profile: Low tip, gently flat

Nigara has quite a few product offerings and there is a great degree of variety among their grinds and styles. For instance, I have seen some Troll Killers with much heftier grinds and I don't have any experience with those (though I am tempted to get one to try it). But without a doubt this one may be as close to magic as a grind can get.

It is over 4mm thick at the heel. It has subtle hollows - two on each side of the blade - with something like a fuller running a third of the way down from the spine. It is super thin, but stiff enough and strong enough to rock chop and cut without feeling like the blade is going to break or chip. Its truly remarkable.

That's amazing. Thank you so much for the insights!
