Mazaki Kasumi 240mm (248 x 53mm)
White #2 core, iron clad
Stabilized spalted maple burl custom mono handle

From CKTG circa 2018-2019. Has the generous taper that Mazaki-san is known for. Full convex 50/50 grind on the bevel, but overall thinner than later iterations of his work. Profile has some curve to it, more similar to the current shape than the dorito. Originally planned to keep this, but cool stuff came up this week and need to change plans.

I did a mini spa treatment:
  • Fully rounded and polished spine/choil
  • Polish of the core, and touch up on the rest of the blade without changing the original geometry. (The original diagonal grind marks are still visible from some angles, but the blade has less drag now)
  • Custom mono spalted maple burl handle, stabilized by K&G. Sized to maintain forward balance.
$425 $395 shipped & fully insured within US (international PM for details)

Dimensions
Blade length: 248mm
Height at Heel: 53mm
Weight: 230g
Balance: 15mm forward from heel

Spine Thickness
Handle: 5.4mm
Heel: 4.4mm
Midpoint: 1.8mm
1cm from Tip: 0.8mm

Man that is a nice piece of custom for a sweet price.

This is the kind of distal taper you see in Kiyoshi Kato Standard grinds, for less than a third the price.

Granted they have different heat treatments, but Mazaki does this really well too.

If I didn't already have 2 Katos, I would really consider this.

Note: Kiyoshi Kato grinds are not for everyone. But, for those that do love them, this is great.
